HEAD COACH COAK MATTHEWS
One of the most decorated coaches in Henderson State history, Coak
Matthews is in his 2
9th year as the university's head swimming and diving
coach.

Matthews, a 1995 inductee into the Arkansas Swimming Hall of Fame, has
won 23 conference championships. He has been named national diving
coach of the year in 1990, national swimming coach of the year in 1994
and conference swimming coach of the year 14 times.

Matthews guided the Red Wave swim team to the 2005 New South
Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championship and was named the NSISC
Men's Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. The Red Wave  
recorded their best-ever finish at the NCAA Division II National
Championships in 2007 placing eighth.

Matthews has also been named a Master Coach by the College Swimming
Coaches Association as well as a level 5 coach (highest level possible) in
the category of the NCAA II by the American Swimming Coaches
Association.  During his collegiate coaching career, he has coached 3
national champions and over 150 All Americans.

Matthews also sponsored the swim team at Arkadelphia High School from
1983 until 2003. He coached the Lady Badgers to two state championships
and eighteen of his swimmers and divers at AHS have been named all-state.

Matthews graduated from Memorial High School in Houston, Texas, in
1973. He went on to attend the University of Arkansas, where he swam
for the Razorbacks all 4 years.

Matthews earned his B.S.B.A degree in finance and banking from the
University of Arkansas in 1977. After serving as the head coach for the
Houston Swim Club in 1978 and the head coach for the Quail Valley
Aquatic Club in Houston from 1979-82, Matthews came to Henderson State.

It 2003, Matthews became a member of the Reddie Hall of Honor.

Matthews and his wife, Mary, are parents of triplets Sallie, Blanton and
William who will be 1
1 in December.

ASSISTANT COACH

MATT SCHNEIDER
matt schneider Begins his fourth year as an assistant for the Redwave
swim teams. As a former head high school coach in Texas, he has 217
career wins to his record and was named Coach of the Year 19 different
times at both the District and Regional levels. His swimmers earned 11
District Championships, 3 Regional Titles, and a State Championship in 1999.
Coach Schneider has had 62 athletes named to the All-State team 182
different times in 24 events. He has had  37 athletes achieve Academic
All-American status, and 11 athletes make the All-American Swimming Team
15 times in 8 different events. His swimmers at the state meets won 12
individual events, 3 relays, set 6 State records, and broke school records
237 times.

As a swimmer at Amarillo High School he set and held both school and city
records,  was voted MVP both his Junior and Senior years, and was named
to the Texas All-State and  All-American team in 1979.

As a collegiate swimmer he attended the University of Texas at Austin and
was a part of the Southwest Conference and National Championship
teams. the longhorns won the first national championship in school
history in 1981. Schneider has held the position of President of the Texas
Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association and was named East Texas
Teacher of the Year for Wal-Mart in 1998. He is an Eagle Scout and is a
proud father of two children, Peter and Rebecca.

DIVING COACH

INGO SCHRANZ
Ingo Schranz came to Henderson as a diver for the 1990/91 season during
which he set two pool records that still stand today.  Since his return in
2004 he has been pushing his divers to wipe those dusty records of the
record-board. Ingo has a great deal of experience on and off the boards.

As a diver he represented former West Germany internationally making the
cuts for the German National Team six times (1985-1989).  While diving for
Henderson as a freshman and for Drury University the remaining three
years of his College career, Ingo earned 8 All American titles and two
National Championships.  After 17 years of bouncing up and down, Ingo
decided to spend some time on deck. He helped coach the University of North
Dakota diving team for three seasons before coming back to Henderson
State.
