2008 SCHOOL RECORDS

“WOW, what a great meet!  I have never been more proud of a team than I am of this one.  I feel like we were in a WAR
and were victorious.  Even though we didn’t actually win the meet, we met so many individual and team goals that it felt
like we did.  We had life time best times, school records and just so many fantastic swims that I can’t ever remember being
so satisfied at the end of a Conference meet, and believe me, there have been so many good ones that when I say this,
you have to know that it was special.  Even the few people who didn’t have great meets, still swam some outstanding
races and helped provide inspiration to their teammates.  This was my 26th Conference Championship meet at
Henderson and I believe that this meet was just as special as any of them, including the 23 Championships!

I praise the Lord Jesus for the strength He provided the student athletes and the wisdom He supplied to the coaching staff
in order to help motivate the team.” – Coach Coak Matthews

On the final day of the meet, the men’s 400 freestyle relay team of Grant Beahan, Don Smith, Quentin Harris and Onat
Tungac won the event with an impressive time of 3:02.80. The fast time was a new CONFERENCE AND SCHOOL
RECORD, and also qualified the team for the NCAA Division 2 National Championships.

"After a 19.97 anchor leg split on the short medley I thought the performance of our meet had been accomplished
already.....but I was wrong! We swam 2 records last night in finals and beat our arch rivals in the highlight last event. It
was THE SHOWDOWN ....400 free relay. Their kid went 44.7 in the open 100...had anchored their 400 medley with a 43.7
and their 800 free relay with a 1:37.9. ( ouch!!!! )
We knew we had to have 2 body lengths lead for our anchor. We lead off two freshmen....one got out of the 200 fly and
then went.....46.18  followed by a  46.6....and we had a .5 lead. Then our two seniors took command of the race. Don
Smith at 45.4 opened up a smokin' two body lengths lead over a decent  46.9 by them......then our 4th leg.....another
senior went 44.84!!!!
We went 3:02.8 for a conference record and school record.
Anyway...good things are occurring because of hard work, perseverance, and dedication to a common goal."
Asst. Coach Matt Schneider.
